It is an impossible task to name the best ever show on Broadway, it’s like picking a favourite child. Each of the shows brings a unique style, culture and story to the stage that enchants the audiences with different backgrounds.

That being said, there is shows that stands out, some have brought back fans to the theatres many times and others have become household names. The list below features some of the best shows ever, obviously in no particular order.

The Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera is the longest running show in the history of Broadway shows and has been entertaining from the world stages since 1988. The show is a consistent show out, no matter where is featured. The show presents the audience with a dramatic story of a disfigured man, haunting the Paris Opera House. He totally falls in love and gets the attention of Christine Daae, while he trains her to sing like an angel.

The Lion King maintains in place as the longest running musical of all time and the winner of many viewer’s choice awards. The show appeals to young children and families with the musical offering animated Disney lines.

Cats

Cats had the longest running record, up until it left the stage in 2003. The Cats show was translated into over 20 languages and has been on stages around the world. It entertains with the story of the Jellicle Cats and the stories of their lives.

Les Misérables

Les Misérables is a show based on the 1862 novel from Victor Hugo, called Les Misérables. The show is the longest running play in London. Presenting a tale of the social unrest in the time of the French Revolution. The theme of the book and play are discussed in high school classes all over the world.

Wicked

Wicked might not be as long standing as some of the other productions, but this fairly new play was selected in 2007 as the best musical by viewers. The Producers is a play, which have won the most Tony Awards ever. The 12 awards includes Best Musical. The play is written by Mel Brooks and this musical entertains with a story set around two producers who tries their best to make it big by overselling a show that is a total flop. A Chorus Line

A Chorus Line is a revived classic with a storyline that has won several Tony Awards and has been around for a long time. It is also one of musicals that have been running for a while on Broadway. The audience of A Chorus meets 17 dancers as they auditions for a part in the show and shares their personal live stories.

Hairspray

Hairspray is the show that has taken 6 Tony Award’s home and is one of only 3 musical that have ever done so. The performance paints a picture of the ethnic tension in the 1960’s and focus on one miss’s crusade to racially integrate an eminent show on Television.

Rent

Rent is a musical with rock music, based on the story of young artists who leads a poor assistance in New York. The musical has won a Pulitzer Prize along with a Tony Award for Best Musical. Rent is famous for its appeal to the younger audience.
