Money Being Raised for Old Broadway Theatre

Money Being Raised for Old Broadway Theatre

The Old Broadway Theatre, located in Western New York has been abandoned for years upon years. This is due to the fact that everyone prefers where the near Broadway is by time square. This unfortunately means that these treasured buildings could eventually be torn down to make way for shopping centers, parking lots or offices. This isn’t the plan for the “Western New York Minority Media Professionals Group” though as they’ve been holding dozens of fundraisers in order to purchase a number of the old Broadway buildings before their destruction comes. The Real Estate Director at WNYMM stated that they just don’t plan on turning these old Broadway buildings into some pathetic movie theatres. They’ll be using them to hold various live theatrical performances, social events during the evening, weddings, concerts, fashion shows and more. As of right now this group has been quoted at a $7 Million cost in order to repair the Old Broadway Theatre alone. The goal has almost been completed as well and the director believes that by the end of August they’ll have enough money to purchase this building. This is incredible as it’s due for destruction May, 2016. The WNYMM believes that it’ll take anywhere from twelve to eighteen months in order to repair the theatre. Throughout those months fundraisers will continue in hopes of being able to buy up all of Old Broadway Street. If any additional information comes to light regarding the Old Broadway Theatre we will then update this...

An Act of God Gaining Bad Reviews

An Act of God Gaining Bad Reviews

An Act of God is the new Broadway Play that’s starring Jim Parsons but it seems that this new Broadway event is already gaining horrible reviews. This play has Jim Parsons play as himself but he is then taken over by the will of god and he becomes god himself. Reviewers have begun to state that this is a self-arrogant play that only confirms what is rumored about him on “The Big Bang Theory”, that much like his character on the show he lives to be special and feel divine. Though this play has an occasional laugh here and there you can’t help but to think the entire time that this play is all about making Mr. Parsons feel better about himself. On top of that this play seems to make major jokes towards the Catholic & Christian Religions, making jokes towards those who believe in the religion by using the bible or giving a long-winded sermon. This has had reviewers stating that for someone who is gay he is ignorant of others beliefs or choices, making him seem far less intelligent than he likes to believe he is. There have been many who have begun to stand outside of Broadway in order to boo or show their hate towards Jim Parsons for him lack of respect. This in the process only showed that these people are no better than Mr. Parsons himself. We shall keep you posted as to what happens with this horrendous...

Woody Allen misses the mark with “Bullets Over Broadway”

Woody Allen misses the mark with “Bullets Over Broadway”

Woody Allen’s comedy is something unique. It’s not too easy to interpret. If “Bullets Over Broadway- The Musical” is any proof, even Woody Allen himself struggles with his own scripts. Bullets over Broadway opened on the 10th of April, at the St James Theater and it has been unanimously slammed by critics and theater-goers alike. Bullets Over Broadway has all the makings of a wonderful musical. It’s got Woody Allen, Susan Stroman, Zach Braff- all big names. But the play itself leaves a bad taste in the mouth. When Allen’s movie (of the same name) released in 1994, it was regarded as a light-hearted comedy. The movie showcased everything Allen has become popular for, as a director. Allen’s humor might not appeal to everybody, but at least it is well defined. At least, that’s what one would expect until they walked into St James Theater, and endured this play for the next three hours.   The biggest problem with Bullets Over Broadway is the fact that it suffers from identity crisis. It’s based on a light-hearted movie, and it does it’s best to be charming and comedic. But there is an underlying layer of drama and tension that one associates with Broadway, but not with Allen’s work. And it’s that underlying layer that proves to be the undoing of this play.   It’s rather surprising that the musical does not have a single original score- all the music used in the play is from the ’20s. The music and choreography are beautifully handled- Stroman has one her best. The happy, foot-tapping dance bits are probably the best parts of the play. But besides that, the play does not have much going for it. Braff’s acting is passable, at best; and the entire production seems just a little too over the top.   Descriptive Keywords: Woody Allen, Bullets Over Broadway, Zach...
